i returned from my first ger to ger tour around 2100...i ended up staying up quite late that night, doing a whole lot of nothing...then i fell asleep with the tv on in my room...after the silence of the countryside, the noise of the city seemed sooo loud...
not surprisingly, the next morning i stayed in bed for a while...after waking up most mornings during the ger to ger sometime between 6 and 7, i did that again, but this time i stayed in bed for a couple hours...i wrote a few postcards, read a bit of foreign affairs, watched news, etc...
after finally getting up, i spent a couple hours on the computer, writing a bit of a previous post, writing back to a few emails, etc...finally, around noon, i think, i left the guesthouse...first i went to the ger to ger office, to sign up for another tour...since i had already done one of the two options they had, it was obvious which one i chose the second time around...i gave them money, figured out the logistics, and everything was good...
from there i started walking toward another sight i'd read about in my guidebook...another temple...the guidebook said it was housed in three large gers that used to be part of a soviet circus...of course i had to see it...lonely planet maps aren't known for their accuracy, and this was one of those times when it wasn't easy to figure out where to go...it's called the daishkind (sp?) temple...i had given up on finding the temple when i was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a wall that seemed like it could be something surrounding a temple...i know that sounds crazy, but hey, i didn't have anything else i needed to be doing...woo hoo, it was the temple...three large gers, a pagoda or two, a HUGE prayer wheel...nifty...
my next stop was another temple, although this one was no longer functioning as a temple...it is now a museum...the choijin lama temple museum...i've forgotten who it was originally built for, but it's another nifty little thing to see...inside what used to be different temples in the complex are various displays of things used during traditional mongolian life way back when...some of the masks they have on display weight 25kgs!!! not fun...
on my way home from the museum, i stoppped in the supermarket, and bought yogurt and frozen veg...normally i'm a much bigger fan of fresh veg, but in mongolia fresh anything is crazy expensive...i knew i wouldn't be getting many veggies during the next few days as i was doing another ger to ger...
later that evening i gave myself a huge headache, from spending too much time on the computer...whoops!! i also talked with a dutch couple who were keen to do a tour just after i came back from my ger to ger tour...i told them the date i would be flying out of mongolia, and said i needed to be back the afternoon before that, but other than that i was keen to do anything...i told them to set something up, and that i'd pay as soon as i got back, and everything would be grand...
and the next day i left for another ger to ger:)
